Wall Street Protesters Complain of Police Surveillance

Doesn’t this remind you of a police state? Don’t think this can happen to you? Think again:

On Nov. 17, Kira Moyer-Sims was near the Manhattan Bridge, buying coffee while three friends waited nearby in a car. More than a dozen blocks away, protesters gathered for an Occupy Wall Street “day of action,” which organizers had described as an attempt to block the streets around the New York Stock Exchange.

Then, Ms. Moyer-Sims said, about 30 police officers surrounded her and the people in the car.

All four were arrested, said Vik Pawar, a lawyer for Ms. Moyer-Sims and two of the others, and taken to a police facility in the East Village. He said officers strip-searched them and ignored their requests for a lawyer. The fourth person could not be reached for comment.

Ms. Moyer-Sims, 20, said members of the Police Department’s intelligence division asked about her personal history, her relationship with other protesters, the nature of Occupy Wall Street and plans for upcoming protests.

“I felt like I had been arrested for a thought crime,” she said.

‘Meet The Press’ Transcript (3-11-12)

Full Transcript. Excerpt below:

MR. GREGORY:  Look, you want your shot to go one-on-one with Governor Romney. So what tips the scales to get Newt Gingrich out of the race?

FMR. SEN. SANTORUM:  Well, I don’t know.  You’d have to ask him.  I mean, we just going to keep on winning and competing.  You know, ever since Nevada we finished first or second in almost every state.  I think we came close. Congressman Paul and I were sort of tied in a couple of states.  But, you know, we’ve been, we’ve been there.  And other than Georgia, Congressman Gingrich has finished even third and fourth and that’s–that continued yesterday.  And, you know, eventually this thing is going to sort out and hopefully we’ll have strong, strong perform–performances in Mississippi here and in Alabama and I’ve even sent my daughter out to Hawaii.  I know it was tough duty, but she did it and she’s out there campaigning for us for this Tuesday.

Two Years On, Tar Sands Spill Casts Long Shadow

http://m.motherjones.com/blue-marble/2012/03/fallout-kalamazoo-tar-sands-spill-keystone

This week,as Senate Democrats narrowly defeated a renewed—and some say misguided—call to rush construction of the Keystone XL oil pipeline, residents and officials at the site of the country’s largest-ever tar sands oil spill are still reeling nearly two years after the fact. A look at the fallout from that incident in Michigan reveals that a spill of diluted bitumen, the kind from Alberta’s tar sands that Keystone would carry, is a far nastier beast than your typical spill of conventional crude. It also shows that cleaning it up can be just as damaging to the environment as the spill itself.

If the economy is getting better, why are things still so bad?

Things are not getting better. The press wants you believe otherwise because they are in the tank for Obama:

Barack Obama said in his State of the Union address that the “economy is getting better.”

If the economy is getting better, then why did new home sales in the United States hit a brand new all-time record low during 2011, and why are there 6 million fewer jobs in America today than there were before the recession started? If the economy is getting better, then why has the number of children living in poverty in America risen for four years in a row and why do only 23 percent of American companies plan to hire more employees in 2012?

[...]If the economy is getting better, why did an all-time record low percentage of U.S. teens have a job last summer and why has the number of Americans living below the poverty line increased by 10 million since 2006?

If the economy is betting better, then why is the average age of a vehicle in America now sitting at an all-time high?

Reliable Sources Panel: Press Beating up on Romney Attempt to Prolong Republican Primary

Pundit Eleanor Clift says the Republican race would be over by now if the same rules were in place from 2008. Many primaries are now proportional and not winner take all. She also said that the press has a vested interest in seeing the Republican primary race continue indefinitely. They need “something to talk about”. This would explain the constant anti-Romney drumbeat.

Other panelists argued that Romney is disliked by the press which also explains the negative coverage.

“All journalists want a brokered convention”; “It’s a fantasy” dream for the press.

Not discussed was the fact that Romney is the likely nominee and the mainstream press is sympathetic to Obama. That’s also why they attack him.
